Jessie Schelhaas, 77, died at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls on Wednesday, October 5, 2011. Funeral service will be Monday, October 10, 2011 at 11:00 AM at the Christian Reformed Church in Corsica with burial following at Graceland Cemetery in Corsica. Visitation will be Sunday, October 9, 2011 from 4 - 7 PM at Koehn Bros. Funeral Home in Corsica.

Jessie Ann Schelhaas was born August 5, 1934 near Aurora Center, SD to Frank and Johanna (Tiemens) Sterk. When she was 2 years old she moved with her family to California. In December of 1941 they moved to Lynden, Washington, where they had a dairy farm. She graduated from Lynden Christian High School in Lynden. On September 1, 1955 she married Roland Schelhaas. They moved back to Corsica, SD where they farmed for over 56 years. Jessie was a member of the Christian Reformed Church in Corsica. She loved to sew, cook, and enjoyed flowers and watching birds. She met her Savior and went to be with the Lord on October 5, 2011 at Avera Mckennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD at the age of 77.

She is survived by her husband Roland; 6 children: Lew Schelhaas and wife Rhonda of Stickney, SD; Jolene Schuldt and husband Alan of Stickney, SD; Delten Schelhaas and wife Anita of Centenial, CO; Verlin Schelhaas and wife Deb of New Richmond, WI; Kenten Schelhaas of Corsica, SD; Byron Schelhaas and wife Tera of Corsica, SD; 3 brothers: Martin Sterk and wife Bev of Everson, WA; Gerrit Sterk and wife Claudette of Everson, WA; and John Sterk and wife Trixie of Linden, WA; 2 sisters: Minnie Vanderpol of Linden, WA and Rickie Prink and husband Bill of Linden, WA; 6 grandchildren, Lee, Ben, Mya, Kallen, Shaylyn and Sydney.

She was preceded in death by a son Lance in 1994, her parents, a sister Gertie, 3 brothers-in-law, and 3 sisters-in-law.
