Tracy (Vander Steen) Veenstra was born on August 28, 1913 to George and Elizabeth (Rodenburgh) Vander Steen near Perkins, Iowa. She passed away on Saturday morning, July 16 at the Douglas County Memorial Hospital in Armour, SD at the age of 97 years, 10 months and 18 days.

She was baptized in the Christian Reformed Church in Rock Valley and was a lifelong member of the Christian Reformed Church.

At a young age she moved with her family to a farm in southwest Minnesota. She attended rural schools through the eighth grade. When she was in the upper grades, she helped the younger students with their lessons.

She was united in marriage to John Veenstra on February 14, 1938 at Hills, Minnesota. They lived on farms north of Corsica until they retired from farming in 1966. At that time they moved into Corsica. They worked for local farmers for several years. She spent many years as a babysitter and seamstress and also as a janitor at the local bank for 30 years until she retired at the age of 88. In 2005, she became a resident at the Good Samaritan Center in Corsica.

She spent many years as a member of the Corsica Christian School Sorority, the Dakota Christian High Auxiliary and the Corsica Christian Reformed Church Dorcas Society. Her neighbors and friends knew that her coffee pot was always on.

She very much enjoyed her family and spent many, many hours crocheting and quilting for her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She is survived by six children: Betty (Chester) VanderZee, Katie (Bob) Hoogwerf, Jan (Dennis) Vanden Berg, Shirley (Jerry) Isakson, Eunice (Alan) deHaai and George Veenstra along with 16 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren, three sisters: Minnie Bosch, Marie (Elmer) Veldhuizen, and Dorothy Bos. She was preceded in death by her husband John, son Sherwood, her parents, two brothers: Bill and Cornie and three sisters: Gertrude DeBoer, Margaret Vlietstra, Betty Brower.
