Visitation for Vernon J. Doran, 69, of Norfolk will be 1-5 p.m. Saturday at Johnson-Stonacek Funeral Chapel. Inurnment will be private family services at a later date. He died Wednesday, April 8, 2009, at Heritage of Bel Air. 

Vernon James Doran was born May 27, 1939, at Plankinton, S.D., to Bernard William Doran and Margaret Lucille Krell. He graduated from Plankinton High School in 1957. He attended Northern State College in Aberdeen, S.D., and Wayne State College in Wayne. He received his master's degree in both education and administration. He married Joan Auld at St. John's Catholic Church on Sept. 2, 1957. He taught high school in Roslyn, S.D., Corsica, S.D., Crofton and Norfolk. He was a guidance counselor and a principal before retiring in 1998. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and traveling to go-kart races and to see his family.

Survivors include wife Joan and children, Jim and wife Dianne Doran (Lawson) of Bozeman, Mont., Mike Doran of Norfolk, Diana and husband Brad Kalin of Norfolk, Jeff and wife Tanya Doran of Providence, Utah, Sean and wife Kathy Doran of Draper, Utah, Amy and husband Jeff DeLuca of Reno, Nev.; grandchildren Kiel and Colleen Kalin of Norfolk, Kody Kalin of Lincoln, Kiefer Kalin of Norfolk, Tyanna Doran, Harrison Doran of Providence, Utah, McKenna Fenton, Killian Doran of Draper, Utah, Connor DeLuca of Reno, Nev.; one sister, Joan and husband Dennis Byrd of Mitchell, S.D.; and his loving pet, Muffy.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
