Vernon Star, 87, died at Corsica Good Samaritan Center on Thursday, June 9, 2016. Funeral service will be Tuesday, June 14, 2016 at 10:00 AM at Grace Reformed Church in Corsica with burial following in Graceland Cemetery in Corsica. Visitation will be Monday, June 13, 2016 from 5 - 7 PM at Grace Reformed Church in Corsica with a prayer service at 7:00 PM. Arrangements by Koehn Bros. Funeral Home in Armour.

Vernon Star was born on April 9, 1929 to John E. and Minnie (Smits) Star in Corsica, SD. He attended and graduated from Corsica Christian School. He worked for different contractors in Corsica which included electrical wiring of homes, building moving, truck driving, and drove bus for Corsica Public School. In June of 1950, he married LuVerne Bobeldyk. Vern began working for Brink Electric Construction. In January of 1952, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy. He was part of the Seabees Construction Battalion and served as an electrician for a year in Cuba and 3 years in Newfoundland. He received and honorable discharge in January of 1956. After his discharge from military service he again worked for Brink Construction at numerous job sites which included South Dakota, North Dakota, Nevada, and southern and northern California. In March of 1965 the family moved to Corsica where he took over the family business, Star Manufacturing Inc. where he worked until he could no longer work due to health problems. Vern was a member of Grace Reformed Church in Corsica, lifetime member of Navy Seabees, Veterans of America, and American Legion Post 274 for 61 years. He enjoyed hunting. Vern died at Corsica Good Samaritan Center on Thursday, June 9, 2016 at the age of 87.

He is survived by his wife, LuVerne of 66 years of Corsica, SD, son, Jerry (Linda) Star of Corsica, SD, granddaughter, Tina Star and Fiancé, Steve Jensen of Mission Hill, SD, grandson, Jerod (April) Star of Corsica, SD, and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, 3 sisters, Ann (Evert (Bob)) Bobeldyk, Arla (Jack) Veldeer, and Octavia (Gene) Den Beste.
