Jim was born January 25, 1944 to Richard and Johanna (Van Luttikhuizen) Bolt on the family farm near Corsica, SD. He moved with his family to Edgerton, MN where he attended country school. His family moved back to Corsica where he graduated from the 8th grade. He entered the United States Army on April 4, 1962 and served his country until March 19, 1963 when he was honorably discharged due to the passing of his father.
He met his future wife, Carol Asmussen at a softball game and 2 years later, on July 4, 1966, was united in marriage at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Stickney. To this union, 3 children were born. The couple made their home on the farm and have lived there for the past 58 years and 9 month. Through the years, Jim worked for several different farmers, CO-OP, Corsica Feed Mill, Corsica Livestock Sale Barn, Olivier Locker and Douglas County Highway Department along with doing his own farming. He would always help where he was needed. He enjoyed watching RFD TV rodeos and the Stetson Brothers. Jim was proud of his 34 year membership of AA. His favorite pastime was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He drove many miles to watch them perform in school activities, 4-H or ballgames.
Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Carol of Corsica; 3 children: Forrest (Joerge) Bolt of Corsica, Travis Bolt of Rapid City, SD, and Coral (Todd) Nordmann of Chancellor, SD; 2 grandchildren: Denver Nordmann of Harrisburg, SD and Samara Nordmann of Brookings, SD; 3 sisters: Delores Garman of Rockford, IL, Joan (Don) Van Gorp of San Saba, TX, Marcia Rus of Corsica; 3 sisters-in-law, Bonnie Bolt of Alamosa, CO, Pat Asmussen of Black Hawk, SD and Dee (Jack) Eide of Clear Lake, SD; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
