She attended Southern State Teachers College in Springfield, SD (1957). Gloria married high school sweetheart, Bruce Beukelman, May 24, 1957, in the Corsica Grace Reformed Church. She taught at Grandview Country School until moving to Killeen, Texas, where Bruce was enlisted in the Army. Gloria and Bruce raised four children together. Karla (Karl) Sybesma of Platte, SD, Shelly (Chuck) Johnson of Tea, SD, Paul (Wendy) Beukelman of Lennox, SD, and Laurel (Joel) Buwalda of Sioux Falls, SD. Gloria was a lifetime member of the Harrison and Corsica Christian Reformed Churches where she was involved in various church groups, Bible studies, and was a mentor for Crossroads Prison Ministries. She prayed faithfully for her family desiring each to know their Savior above all. She enjoyed singing and playing piano, sewing and gardening, and was always a good sport by frequently taking the family to the ball diamond each summer. She cared daily for her aging parents, including having her mother Susie come live with them when she became a widow. Happy to finally leave the farm, Gloria and Bruce moved into a house in Corsica. Later she moved into Leisure Living assisted living in Corsica, where she lived until her death.

Gloria was a beloved wife and mother, working tirelessly to make sure every need was met, never raising her voice, and always offering encouragement. She spoke fondly of summer trips to Michigan as a child, and later of trips to Sioux Falls to visit her sisters. She both laughed and cried easily and was eager to meet her Savior, Jesus. Gloria passed away peacefully in her sleep at Leisure Living in Corsica on August 18, 2026, waking up in the glory and presence of her Savior, Jesus Christ.
